I’ve got a few extra notebooks to clear out, so it’s time for another random giveaway. And this one is for those of you who don’t have blogs or social media accounts. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post telling me something about your love of notebooks– what your favorite old or new notebook is, how you’re using notebooks lately, what new notebook brand you’ve been dying to try. You can even tell me what kind of notebook you’d love to win! (Make sure you put an email address in the comment form so I know how to contact you if you win. Your email address will not be used for any other purpose.)
I will pick 3 winners, each of whom will get a notebook. Or two notebooks, maybe. It will be a surprise!
Prizes can be mailed to US addresses only. (Sorry international readers, but the shipping costs really add up!) The deadline to enter is Friday December 20, 2019, at 11:59pm EST.
Thank you for doing this!
I’m a long time A5 notebook lover, but last Christmas I received an A6 as a gift. I love it, too.
I’m a fountain pen junkie, so I always try to find friendly paper if possible.
Christmas, Hannukah, Qwanzaa, Festivus
Thanks for thinking of the restivus,
and I will send you thank you notes,
If you send me a book for notes!
(Or sketching. Or painting. Or whatever.)
I have just rediscovered handwriting and have found this blog informative and useful!
I use a B6 Traveler’s notebook for my bullet journal, so I cycle through B6 notebooks, from cheap to expensive. I find that I don’t have a preference. As long as it works, I love it :)
I am an international reader, so I don’t qualify for your giveaway, but I wanted to let you know I appreciate this particular giveaway. Maybe if I win you can give my prize to someone in the US, that I choose? I would like that, and have several possible candidates…
I discovered your site via FPN, so that gives me away as a fountain pen user – that is my main criterium for a notebook.
Other than that, I love them in all sizes and shapes, though I find I prefer unlined or maybe dotgridded.
Keep up the good work with the blog. I find I enjoy reading about all sorts of notebooks and how people use them.
I found this blog a few years ago, and I love the stories. I love seeing other people love what I love! I always look forward to your posts. My dad used to bring home stacks of computer paper, the kind with the perforated edges with little holes that fed through a printer. One side had a bunch of computer code, but the other side was perfect for hours of drawing. I think my love of notebooks began way back then. I love paper! Computers will never replace that space in my heart!
I just recently found out that a neighbor’s high school age daughter has been a stationery junkie ever since seeing my 1920s Underwood typewriter. I’m planning to put together a little package of some of my own extras to help her explore new notebooks.
I’m intrigued by people commenting about the B5 size. Maybe I need to try that size! I love any kind of notebook that’s fountain pen friendly. :)
I think I’m more an accumulator than a user. I have a nice stash of notebooks that I appreciate the looks and feel of. I’ve mostly been actually using Field Notes though.
My next notebook purchase I want to make is a 5 year journal, or a suitable notebook I can use for that purpose. Decent paper and probably A5ish in size.
I want to start a 365 photo project again this January so either a separate notebook or that 5 year book above for that too.
Baron Fig, Unfinish :)
Been using some of my nice ones for my Tarot journals lately.
Happy holidays.
I have been following your site for almost the entire time you have had it up. My love for notebooks go back to when I was in High school and into the military. I have been keeping a daily log in my notebook for years as it has saved my but in court a few times. Seeing on your blog the many different ways people utilize their notebooks is fascinating to me as to the extremes of people and their notebooks and journals. Keep up the good work.
I just can’t really seem to stop wanting notebooks, although I have cut back on buying them!
Both of my parents were prolific notebook keepers and they passed that love down to me, it’s something I’ll always cherish. My favorite notebook at the moment boasts everything I prefer in one to begin with: a hardcover, solid color, pocket size, and ruled pages. I divide the pages into even sections, devoting each to a particular category: ideas, lists, dreams, and various information (contacts, etc). If the ideas are worth keeping, often I’ll devote other entire notebooks to them (usually a Muji or Roaring Spring composition).
This past year I’ve worked on refining my penmanship, first with print, to fair success. In 2020, my goal is to improve my cursive again, and I’d love any kind of notebook that could facilitate this, with a simple design and quality paper.
Thank you for doing this, I love the site and read it daily!
I love notebooks of any kind but I especially like the bound variety (like Moleskine type). I have been using a lined Moleskine this year but I really prefer squared or blank more.
Thanks for this fun site. I’ve been reading for years — always looking for that perfect notebook
Hello, how generous! I use mostly a pocket notebook! The last one I finishes was a brand I could find again, so i bought a Leuchtturm dot grid for the first time and I am in love!!
Hooray for giveaways … hooray for Notebook Stories!
My favorite type of notebook is a dot grid because it’s most flexible for lists, writing, drawing. I’ve been using a Rollbahn lately and actually quite like the form factor. The wirebound allows me to flip it around and makes it a little easier to use (since I’m a leftie).
I’ve just started journaling so I’m always looking for interesting notebooks.
Woot!
I tell people I have a notebook fetish. I use them, but I have far more sitting in a box than I actually use. I am always looking for different uses for them. I just used one as a journal for the Cincinnati Reds 2019 season (their 150th) and did an entry for every game and tons of other details. Now I am getting team autographs in it. My next project awaits once I figure out what that is! I also have one for a homebrew club I am in. I have a daily carry book. Just enjoy having them. I would say my favorite brand is still Moleskine, but any well-made book is good for me.
Daily diary, daily todo, random musical jots (I write the staff myself).
i’ve always loved composition notebooks, but lately i’m loving them even more when they come with cute little designs on them. i use them for everything, lists, finances, bucket lists, jounaling, gifting, etc.
I have always been attracted to notebooks dating back to getting spiral bound notebooks for the new school year. Now I am in love with my Clairefontaine Goldline 8.3×5.8†notebook. I use it to record travel, draw new patterns, and highlight events like the polar vortex. I paint, use markers, watercolors, washi tape, stickers, and collage. I also have a Strathmore Sketch 5.5×8.5†notebook I concurrently work in too doing the same stuff although the paper is not the quality of the Clairefontaine. I like writing my favorite quotes and inspirations, anything that makes me feel good. Thanks for the fun question and giveaway !
Doane paper notebooks always fascinate me with the line design. I just wanted to say thanks for being in the spirit of the holidays. I am sure everyone who has replied understands what a good notebook does for them.
I actually got into notebooks (not including spiral-bound school notebooks) via artists’ journal sketchbooks, such as Cathy Johnson! I’m currently using two notebooks. One for morning pages (random notebooks), one for daily journaling and planning/to-do lists (Hobonichi A5), and a sketchbook. This was my first year using the Hobonichi. Before that, it was bullet journaling!
With that said, I’m pretty much a buy-it-when-I-need-it person so currently, all my notebooks fit on one shelf!
Also, thanks for being an awesome resource for notebook reviews, peoples’ notebook stories, and sketchbook related stuff too!
I love A5 notebooks- the size is just right for throwing in my bag for random notes, to do lists etc..
Thanks for the giveaway and happy holidays! I enjoy your blog!
My first journals were gifts from Hallmark with a Schaefer enamel ballpoint pen. Then I found Moleskine, and now with the internet it’s a whole new world. I love lay-flat, sewn bindings. Plain is probably the most versatile format, but there are so many to love! I wish more people knew what was actually out there.
I collect notebooks, paper and journals like squirrels collect nuts. Recently I have become wild about grey, cool or warm, it’s all good.
For the last couple years, I’ve only used an old diary as my prompt planner. It’s not fp friendly so I just use a pencil. For fountain pen sketching and calligraphy, I use a personal hand bound sketchbook using cheap local watercolor paper. I’ve read about Hahnemule and Moleskin but haven’t tried yet. I also wish to try Leuchturm or Rhodia. I’m sure any of those notebooks you’re giving away is fp friendly. Should I win that is. Well, thanks for the chance .
I couldn’t live without handwritten notes, calendar and sketching.
I love notebooks! Currently I have several going:
1) My ongoing bullet journal
2) Writing/Publisher Tracker
3) A pocket notebook for keeping track of ideas, thoughts, and information while on the go
I have found my favorite notebook thus far to be the Goulet Pens staple-bound A5 dot-grid notebook with Tomoe River paper, but I am always exploring new options!
Possessions come and possessions go–but the one constant in my life has been my notebooks, from elementary school journals to the present.
Love reading this site and seeing what you and other readers are doing with their notebooks.
I use a notebook/journal to r3cord letters to my grandchildren after each visit,p. I have two going right now. I also use one for the funny tings my 1 1/2 year old granddaughter says. It is filling quickly.
I will use literally any kind of notebook as long as it doesn’t smell funny.
Apparently I have been Bullet Journaling for years and years and knowing it was a thing
I use a lot of different notebooks and have recently gone to ones fountain pen friendly
My collection has been asking, “ when do we get a new brother or sister?â€
As a amateur bookbinder, I make a lot of notebooks, but loath using ones I’ve made. I was gifted a Paper Republic Grand Voyageur which I cherished for years before transitioning to a pocket sized traveler for daily use. The task of trying new combos of 3.5 x 5.5 notebooks for planner, long form writing, and daily logs is seemingly endless. One of my favorite things is to detour into other notebooks. I’m a notebook non-monogamist through and through.
I love using them for journaling. It’s awesome going back a year or two ago and seeing what was happening in my life along with cute pictures of my boys.
I’m using Leuchtturm1917 notebooks for my bullet journal. I rotate through the color wheel so they make a rainbow on my shelf when I file them – my last one was yellow, my current one is green, and my next one will be blue.
I’ve been wanting to try some of the Fieldnotes-style notebook – they seem like they’d be awfully convenient to carry
I recently discovered the Leuchtturm1917 Notebooks and am using them for journaling and doodling.
I love the moleskin notebooks but would be open to explore other options.
Thanks! Love your blog!
Really like the classic Moleskine, except for fountain pen use. Right now, I alternate between the Leuchtturm 1917 A5 hardcover and Rhodia Webbie for journaling. Would love to try Dingbats, The Author, and the softcover Leuchtturm 1917, and anything else A5. Thanks again!
Presently have 6 separate journals going
Clairefontaine with French rule as a travel/maintenance log for our travel trailer, really like the French rule, great for handwriting practice, A5
Small Rhoda journal as a bullet journal, edc, 4×6
Blank journal from Pen store in New Orleans as a journal,A5
Caran d’ Ache journal as a gratitude journal, A5
Just started a food log, Rhodia A5
Finally have an 8 1/2 x 11 spiral bound notebook from staples with the special fountain pen friendly paper. This has 3 sections which are used for research(best price of trailer tires), goals, and college football picks.
Thank you for the opportunity to think through all of my journals. If I were to be lucky enough to win one of your journals I would use it as a photography journal to take with me when taking photos. It would be a place to put reminders on apperature, shutter speed etc. I bought an inexpensive camera on eBay and am teaching myself how to take better pictures than what you get on an iPhone. Hopefully I would be able to send you a picture in focus of the journal being used.
I love notebooks! Right now I am using one of those A5 “Author†ones and also a teensy weensy traveler’s style one I found on Etsy. And the pretty one my daughter bought me at Walmart that has surprisingly good paper is calling to me.
I don’t have a favorite size. I have fun seeing what happens when I use a different size. Or ruled/blank/ grid etc. I think I just want *all* the notebooks. :)
I found out about Notebook Stories in 2012 and I’ve loved getting a peek into the practices of other notebook lovers. Right now I have about a dozen notebooks for different purposes (e.g. daily journal, projects, on-the-go, art, work) in many sizes/styles. It works well for me; however, I appreciate that this probably creates a sense of vertigo for a bullet journaler. The criteria for each purpose is different but paper quality is what I crave for my primary journal, project, or art notebooks. Soft and smooth, but also resilient. I love the Kokuyo notebooks you recently wrote about, the paper quality and tiny grid give me a smile each time I use them – luckily I bought the 10-pack so I have enough for a while. I’m glad you’re doing this giveaway, it gives me an excuse to finally send the thank you I should have sent years ago: Thank You!
A little over a year ago I was all digital all the time for everything. Then I read about bullet journaling. Now I’m buying notebooks and fountain pens and using them as my primary info storage medium. I’ve grown to love pen and paper again.
I love smooth paper: Claire Fontaine and tomoe river. I mostly use a5 rhodia webnotebooks but interested in other sizes and other papers. I enjoy your blog.
Thank you for the giveaway! I use all kinds of notebooks, mostly for writing and drawing/painting. Mostly A5 sizes except during Inktober when I pick smaller sizes to try out new ideas.
I’ve always been a notebook addict, but recently I’m getting into the fountain pen game and would love to try Clairefontaine paper sometime soon! I’ve been reading this blog for years and find it both educational and inspirational!
I started art journaling in 2004 and eventually made my way to Moleskines and now I create my own junk journal inserts. Am curious about tomoe river paper.
Hi hi!
I’ve been filling one sketchbook a month for almost 5 years- since I was a freshman in high school! Obviously, the costs add up just a bit!
My favorite part about paper media is that it does not take me out of the environment. As a people-person, I like to hear conversations, and snippets of other people’s days!
I love notebooks because they provide a physical manifestation of memories. I would love to be surprised by a notebook that I’ve never seen before.
I’m always using several different notebooks simultaneously. I like to keep a small one in my shirt pocket and keep an A5 I use at home. But my current favorite is a pocket notebook (Field Notes) size Midori Traveler style notebook. A brand I want to try is Write Notepads.
I’ve been keeping a gratitude journal lately, which has been fulfilling. Haven’t been to this blog for a while, but so glad to see it’s still running through so many years!
Lately I’ve mostly been using notebooks for daily journal entries, but I do also use notebooks for the occasional note about something small, and for school.
Thank you for the giveaway.
