About 2 years ago, I visited a very cute shop in Philadelphia called Omoi Zakka. As Wikipedia explains, “zakka” is a Japanese concept having to do with household items that are attractively designed. The Omoi Zakka shop certainly delivered on that when I was there, with lots of interesting little items for the desk and home, many (but not all) from Japan.
These were the two notebooks that I bought there:
I was happy to find this Midori notebook as I’d only seen them online up til that point. I love the landscape layout– or at least the suggestion that you consider using it that way! As it shows inside, it can work in portrait mode too. Cute minimal design, and lovely Midori paper within.
This little memo book is from Bison Bookbinding right here in the USA (Bellingham, WA). It’s just a simple little stapled notebook, but the marbled paper on the cover makes it special.
(Both notebooks shown next to a pocket size Moleskine for size comparison in some of the photos above.)
I love finding little shops like Omoi Zakka where notebooks are part of an interesting product mix. I hope I can get back to Philadelphia one of these days for another visit! In the meantime, I’ll browse their webshop, which I just discovered while writing this post…
Omoi Zakka is such an awesome shop! Glad to see them getting love. I live in Philly and I have to resist the temptation to go there every day. Their notebook selection is great and they are starting to carry a good selection of affordable fountain pens.
If I’m ever in Philly I’ll have to visit them, for now, that Webstore is a great idea. Thank you so much for sharing this.
