Comfortable Shoes Studio is a seller of handmade journals, notebooks and paintings on ArtFire. I forget how I stumbled across them, but I am glad I did, as they have some very nice-looking notebooks!
These little jotters are $7.99 for a set of six, which seems like a good value:
Various designs are available. Here’s the listing description:
These little notebooks are made of recycled and new materials. This listing is for 6 Jotter Notebooks. They measure 3.5×5.5 inches and have 48 pages which are assorted colors and weights. This paper came from my ” I don’t have enough for a full book box.”. The paper was mixed up for these books. There are some blue, yellow, green, 25% cotton 100% cotton, gray, lined, graph, computer, speckled etc papers in here. The cover is made of an advertising poster- stiff cardstock commercially printed and then coated on both sides with thin vinyl.
These little notebooks are tough and withstand repeated hard use. Check out my flickr page for some examples of my journals after use.
I also love the look of these journals:
At $12.99, it’s a little pricier, but the cover is real leather:
This journal measure 3.5×5.5 inches and 1/2 inch thick. There are 160 acidfree light green colored 24lb pages. The paper is made from recycled American currency. This paper is no longer in production. The style of binding is called smythe sewing and opens flat for ease of use.
This basic journal is covered in tough leather making a stiff, flexible cover that folds over on itself.
The leather on this journal is a tough cow hide that will soften with use and age. The marbled chocolate brown cover has a wonderful texture and feel in your hand. You’ll want to use it just to hold it. This leather is tough and will survive repeated hard use.Inside you’ll find 160 pages of thick writing paper in light green. It’s cool green color is perfect for drawing, sketching, doodling, and collage. The paper is tough enough to survive quite a few techniques, but if you are planning on painting in this journal I’d suggest a coat of gesso. This would make a great art journal or sketchbook. The thick stock will prevent most strike-through to the other side when writing or drawing.
This simple journal or sketchbook would make a perfect gift for someone on your shopping list.
There are various other notebook styles available– check’em out!

Before Leslie, the woman behind Comfortable Shoes Studios, became a dear friend and someone I love working with on our ‘zine ‘Art Journaling – it’s all good’, I ordered two of her products: a journal and a big jotter. She threw in a small jotter too. And can I just say I loooove these books? I keep one on my bedside table at all times to jot down (hehehe..) ideas and stuff I must not forget. They are very well made and getting to know the wonderful lady behind the products have made me appreciate them even more.
