This week’s addict is a librarian who was contemplating a book reorganization project and then decided to tackle her journals instead:
Her take on the collection:
I’ve been keeping a journal since I was 11 years old, and I’ve never really given much thought to what they’re for exactly. They take up quite a bit of space, and if I keep going at this rate they’re eventually going to need their own room. Considering that I never look at them, is there even any point in keeping them?
Well of course she has to keep them!!

You never go back and read them? Oh wow. I love to read my old journals – to remember things that happened, sure, but mostly to revisit my childhood or young adult self and the way I perceived the world and people around me. I find it very interesting and revealing to see how my perspectives have changed with age and experience. In fact, it’s more entertaining to me than a work of fiction.
I couldn’t imagine getting rid of my journal stash! I re-read mine all the time as well. (Sometimes on stage… guh.)
BIG fan of the classic black and white marble cover “Composition” notebook. I’ve got quite a few of those in my collection, too!
I tear mine up after I write them and shove them in recycling.
I can’t really get rid of them either. I started this project in January, and since then I have been attempting to organize and read through them. It’s a weird experience, but definitely worth it!
